"Take 6 Launches New Record Label With A Bang - Feels Good" By: Mary Crosby Take 6 will be releasing their first CD in 4 years entitled, Feels Good. This CD will be their first project on their new record label, Take 6 Records. Detroit Gospel.com received a promo copy and we can highly recommend that you run (don't just walk) out and pick it up on its scheduled release date of March 21. As Take 6 member David Thomas agreed (during our interview with him before a recent concert in Ann Arbor), this CD isn't about categories or genres, it's for everybody that likes great music.
Detroit Gospel.com was in the house for Take 6's recent concert at Hill Auditorium on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor. In a word, "phenomenal." In four words, "These boys can blow!" The group sang several cuts from the new project along with such favorites as "Wade In The Water," "I Got A Life In Jesus," and "Spread Love." Judging by the thunderous applause, rapt attention, and standing o's, it must have felt real good to the packed house of diverse fans there for the University Musical Society's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event. The group showed that they haven't lost a beat (or a riff) during their four-year hiatus from recording, and left the audience begging (practically pleading) for more. While Detroiter and University of Michigan alum, Cedric Dent, did not make this recent trip back to Ann Arbor with the group, fill-in Khristian Dentley, showed that he could more than hold his own with Take 6's rock-solid roster of Alvin Chea, Joel Kibble, Mark Kibble, Claude McKnight, and David Thomas. It's hard to believe that it's been 18 years since the group's 1988 debut release and 25 years since the original members began singing together on the campus of Oakwood College in 1980. With 12 records to their credit, 10 Grammys, and numerous other awards, Take 6 is the most nominated Gospel, Jazz, Pop or R&B group in Grammy history. Although they are already "hall-of-famers," their many fans around the world can take comfort in knowing that they are still going strong and have many great years ahead of them. As someone who has followed them since the beginning of their recording career, this writer can unequivocally state that Take 6 is only getting better with time. Their voices remain as celestial as ever, their music remains fresh and vibrant, and most importantly, their message remains clear and strong.
