Shoulda Been There! CD Release Celebration for 'somethin' 'bout love'
A throng of Fred Hammond friends, family, and supporters met up at Straight Gate International church in Detroit on Monday, June 7, to celebrate the June 8th release of Fred Hammond's 10th album and 20 legendary years of gospel music. A "Who's Who" of Detroit's gospel music artists and industry were on hand for a joyous (and FREE) celebration punctuated by free-flowing food, gospel music, and exhuberant fellowship.
Artists on-hand included Eric Deon, Marvin "Coconut" Winans, Jr., David Ivey, Sonnie Day, God's Little Soldiers, and 21:03, the latest gospel singing sensation from P.A.J.A.M. Industry members there to support Detroit's own included, Deborah Smith-Pollard (WJLB), Earl Wright (WMUZ), Larry Robinson (God's World), J. Sanford (WMUZ), Ray Hammond (Face to Face), Walter Kearney (PAJAM), Paul Allen (PAJAM), Carl B. Phillips (PraiseFest), Jamillah Muhammed (Mix 92.3), Darryl Sims (WGPR), Karen Hunt-Barker (Elyon/E2 Productions), and the hard-working staff of Detroit Gospel.com. Black Gospel Promo CEO, Veda Brown, even flew in for the event.
A line of people extending beyond the doors of Straight Gate entered the plush lower level as cuts from Fred Hammond's new release, "somethin' 'bout love" played in the background. Multiple tables of piping hot catered food stood ready for enjoyment. Banners and posters of the cause for celebration, the CD "somethin' 'bout love," decorated the room. A table with CD's hot off the presses was set up and awaiting eager buyers.
The evening officially kicked off with prayer from Bishop Andrew Merrick. Mistress of Ceremonies, Keisha Allen (wife of Paul Allen of PAJAM), kept the celebration rolling as various artists sang to an excited crowd. Fred Hammond took the stage to cheers and applause and thanked the crowd for 20 years of supporting his music ministry.
The celebration continued well into the night as Fred shook hands, posed for pictures, and celebrated with well wishers. All agreed that the celebration was a hit and that the new CD will be another hit for this legend of gospel music.
