By: Brenda Underwood Dateline: August 30, 2005, Detroit, MI. Dorinda Clark Cole’s CD Release Party Reneé, Dorinda Clark-Cole, and Brenda Underwood On Tuesday, August 30, 2005, Dorinda Clark Cole entered the room at Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church, radiant in a pink ensemble reflecting the signature color of the cover of her new CD, "Live From Houston: The Rose of Gospel," passing out pink roses as she proceeded to the stage to signal its release. DetroitGospel.com was on hand to witness the outpouring of love and support for this Detroit icon. The room was packed with Dorinda’s family members, friends, the media/press, record producers, writers, musicians, radio personalities and all of her adoring supporters. Dorinda said, “I chose pink for my CD cover so that you will know you are purchasing the new CD as opposed to the last CD" (where the color she wore was red).
Some of the persons present for Cole’s CD release party were: husband, Greg Cole; daughter and personal manager, Nikki Cole; son, Jay Cole; Bishop J. Drew Sheard (brother-in-law/pastor); Karen Clark Sheard (sister/first lady); Twinkie Clark (sister); Jackie Clark Chisolm (sister); J. Moss (cousin); her producer Alex Ward; Vicki and Claude Lataillade (former owners of Gospel Centric records, now owned by Sony BMI); musician, Joe Smith; Kevin L. Gray (a contestant from the new artist showcase at Dorinda’s last Musicians' Conference with whom she recorded a duet); David Miller and Darius Campbell (young writers from Detroit who wrote the song “Great is the Lord” on the new CD); Small Fire (formerly Small Fry from Comic View and who is also featured in Robert Townsend’s Partners in Comedy – Next Generation); Cleodis (a local comedian); Jeffrey Roberts (contestant of Vickie Winans’ Rising Star Tour); Reverend Mother (radio personality from WMUZ Radio); Deborah Smith-Pollard (radio personality from Sunday mornings on WJLB); gospel artist, Sonnie Day; "Detroit Gospel.com On The Air" radio co-host, Carl B. Phillips; and the Word Network with Lexie as host/interviewer.
The evening began with Dorinda giving praises: to God for allowing her an opportunity to record the CD; to her husband, children, family and friends for their love and support through the process; and to those of us who purchase her products and share the good news of Jesus with others. With each song, Dorinda gave a brief history of how the song came to be and how each was related to the songs on her previous CD. Some songs were presented by clips from the accompanying DVD, and the release party participants got to share in the emotions and activities of the night of the recording. The songs recorded on her latest project by this magnificent woman of God are: 1. Great is the Lord At the event’s closing, CD’s were available for the listening party participants to purchase. Dorinda passed out more pink roses and signed CD covers, posters and postcards for all who requested. Dorinda also stated that she was glad that on this project, she was able to cover everyone’s taste in gospel music from traditional to hip hop, and to be an avenue to allow new artists, new writers and talented musicians a platform to share their gifts.
