Known for her dynamic, inspiring and anointed word ministry, gospel vocalist Alice Hicks is an acclaimed singer, songwriter and speaker with a special gift of worship and exhortation.
According to Alice, her debut CD – Life In Hymn on Brio Records – is a testimony of her renewed existence with God; the message in the music is consistent throughout the project. “I want people to hear my passion and my sincere desire to live a life that is pleasing to Him. I hope they hear a sermon that challenges them to transform and dwell in Christ. He’s given us “right now” faith and hope for tomorrow.” The mission and purpose for her music is to share her testimony of faith, and to express praise, adoration, and thankfulness to God. Through the songs that God has placed in her, it is Alice’s hope that people will accept the greatest miracle of all, and that is the miracle of salvation which includes wholeness in every area of their lives.
Now Alice admits her walk with God hasn’t always been as strong as it is today. She says her ministry was birthed out of personal struggles with low self esteem, rejection, shame, and the wounds of an abusive relationship. Her music is one way of sharing her ministry of healing, restoration, deliverance and encouragement.
As singer and songwriter for many of the cuts on the Life In Hymn cd, Alice confesses that her personal favorites are “Begin & End with Him” because it demonstrates the ability to keep the music simple – yet moving, grounded – yet heavenly, and “Call Him” because it uniquely describes the many roles and names of Jesus in a tender, soft and reverent way.
Like many other renowned gospel vocalists, her musical journey began at age nine when she started singing in her church choir. “Participating in church was mandatory in our house. There were only two options, the usher board or the choir, so I chose the latter. As time went on, singing became one of my greatest passions and I would get excited on Saturday evenings, anticipating a vibrant worship experience on Sunday morning,” says Alice.
Her vocal skills and songwriting ability was evident as it became clear that God had His hand on her life and was shaping her for what would become a spirited worship ministry. Hymns, spirituals and traditional gospel had great impact on her as a child and her interest in music expanded to contemporary gospel, Christian, jazz and soul.
Inspired by gospel artists such as Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin, Smokie Norful and Fred Hammond, Alice’s music also speaks of fervor and victory through Christ. “My friend, Smokie is someone who also inspires me,” says Alice. “I have known him since college and his growth and maturity in the Lord is encouraging. I am also inspired by his musical style, his humility and his desire to please God.”

Under the guidance of Pastors Lawrence and Darlene Bishop, Alice says she’s learned the true meaning of worship and her faith and walk with Christ has blossomed and inspired the lives of many in her surroundings. Worship, she reveals, requires intimacy and obedience and her music exemplifies her surrendered life to God.
In obedience to God’s call, in 2005, Alice established Alice Hicks Ministries and the 360 Deliverance Conference in 2006 (a national conference of healing, deliverance, and restoration in St. Louis, MO). When asked where she envisions herself five years from now and what her supporters have to look forward to, Alice replied, “Five years from now, I would like to be noted as a committed worship leader that provides listeners anointed music with an individual sound. Music lovers can look forward to more God inspiring works; including a praise and worship album and for me to stay true to God and the ministry He’s given me.”
