Je’Caryous Johnson’s play, “Cheaper to Keep Her,” is an entertaining hit in Detroit. This is an adult comedy about love and relationships starring Vivica A. Fox, Brian McKnight, Jonathon Slucomb, Gary “G-Thang” Johnson, Karen Melina White, Jamie Patton, native Detroiter Christian Keyes, and Margot Beocker.
It is a play full of laughter, drama, faith-based undertones and nonstop “throw back” songs, that all ages can remember. The cast was hilarious, and if you are a Brian McKnight fan, he will not let you down with those special songs of love and pain. You will even hear Jonathon Slucumb stir up his vocals with Jamie Patton on “Satan Proof Our Marriage,” as well as their own comic relief and drama.
One of the most unforgettable scenes, and there were many, but this one had the audience with their hands in the air and screaming, was the song battle between native Detroiter, Christian Keyes versus Brian McKnight. Your side will be hurting with Gary “G Thang” Johnson and Karen Melina White’s characters, and your heart will go out to Vivica A. Fox, as she brings it naturally, as you watch her character unfold before your eyes. Margot Beocker’s character was true to form, and she made you believe she would take your man. Just remember it is “Cheaper To Keep Her.”
