The Howard Gospel Choir
Formed
on the campus of Howard University in 1968, the Howard Gospel Choir
(HGC) is a body of students, alumni and community members dedicated to
using the gift of music to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. As the
first college choir of its kind in the world, HGC is a trailblazer for
all gospel music ministries on collegiate campuses across the globe.
This
year marks the Howard Gospel Choir’s 4th Annual Scholarship Concert.
Over the last four years, the scholarship fund has provided over 30
scholarships and over 50 since 1996. This event raises funds for college
students in need and encourages Detroit’s youth to attend college.
Three scholarships will be presented during event.
Some
of the Howard Gospel Choir’s most noted alumni include
GrammyAward© winners Richard Smallwood and Coré
Cotton (member of Sounds of Blackness), as well as Detroit’s own
Elbernita “Twinkie” Clark of the legendary Clark Sisters and BET Sunday
Best finalist Clifton Ross III.
