Michael Fletcher and his nephew following the Michael Fletcher Chorale’s Live Recording Session
After more than 10 years since their last recording, the Michael Fletcher Chorale thrilled the audience at Greater Grace Temple as they recorded their latest release on Entheos Records. Many of the Detroit gospel music community came to celebrate this great event including Michael Mindingall, the Craig Brothers, Darius Twyman, Herman Harris, Chris Jones, Derrick Milan, WMUZ’s Rev. Mother, and Detroit Gospel.com’s own Renee’ and Carl B. Phillips.
The evening opened with fellow label mate, Antun Foster & Chemistry, performing music from their soon to be released CD “I Hear You Calling Me.” Following a short break, The Michael Fletcher Chorale began the evening with the selection “Jesus Is The Light,” originally recorded by Aretha Franklin on her “One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism” release.
The Chorale, in excellent form, recorded new material written by Roderic Edwards, featuring Minister Kenny Wells (“Stir Up The Gift”) on lead, the Ernest Lee composition “No Weapon” and Carnell Murrell’s “Holy Is The Lord.” Other songwriters included Darius Twyman, and Chicago native, Vashawn Mitchell.
The highlight of the evening came when Pastor Tolan Morgan lead the Chorale in his arrangement of “Bread Of Heaven.” The song allowed Fletcher the opportunity to showcase his exhilarating directing style.
As the recording came to a close, Michael requested former Chorale members in attendance to join him on stage as they recorded the classic “Glory Hallelujah.”
