Detroit, MI – Saturday, October 31, 2009, brought a new meaning to “Angel’s Night” as the Executive Board of the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum (IGMHFM) presented their 13th Induction Celebration and Fundraiser, held at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit. The Master of Ceremony for the evening was Jeff Majors, noted recording artist and host of Sunday Morning Joy aired on Radio One in Baltimore, MD and Washington, D.C. simultaneously.  Detroit gospel-lovers turned out to celebrate and join in the festivities with IGMHFM.

The inductees for this year’s Hall of Fame were: Bishop T. D. Jakes, founder and senior pastor of the Potter’s House in Dallas, TX; Bill “The Mailman” Martin, a gospel radio announcer in the Austin, TX area and founder/president of the Texas Gospel Announcers Guild; Willie Mae Ford Smith, legendary gospel vocalist, whose rendition of “If You Just Keep Still” delivered  at the 1937 National Baptist Convention set a standard for solo singing; Evangelist Myrna Summers, national recording artist and currently Minister of Music at Reid Temple A.M.E. Church in Glendale, MD – a suburb of Washington, D.C.; Dr. Wyatt Tee Walker, pastor, national civil rights leader, theologian and cultural historian, as well as a composer of sacred music; and, BeBe Winans, international gospel music recording artist and part of the Winans Family, Gospel music’s “Royal Family.”  The Presenters for the night were Detroit’s own LaShell Griffin, Kirk Walker and Sharon May.  Musical selections were rendered by Esther Smith and Eric Deon along with the IGMHFM musical ensemble.
