Deitrick Haddon at God’s World
Former Detroiter Deitrick Haddon’s new release, Masterpiece, is Billboard’s #1 Gospel album this week, and last week Deitrick was spotted all over town promoting it. DetroitGospel caught up with him at his CD signing at God’s World, where enthusiastic supporters were lined up to see the Preachers of L.A. reality star along with his lovely wife, Dominique, and three beautiful children, including 2-month old, Deitrick, Jr.
Hallelujah: The Journey of Larry Clark
Gospel artist and producer Larry Clark was among the supporters at Deitrick’s CD signing, and Larry talked with us about his upcoming Gospel Play, Hallelujah: The Journey of Larry Clark. The musical production, covering 4 generations of the legendary Clark Family, opens February 27th in Orlando, Florida, and of course, Detroit will be a stop along its journey. One of the soundtrack highlights is a duet with Larry and his grandmother, Mattie Moss Clark, on “Standing In the Need of Prayer,” made possible through the wonders of modern technology.
Kierra Sheard’s New EP
Further proving that Mattie Moss Clark’s legacy lives on, Larry’s first cousins, Kierra and J. Drew Sheard, have teamed up once again for Kierra’s new EP project, LED, released this past Friday.
BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards
Turning to Detroit’s other legendary gospel family, it was recently announced that BeBe & CeCe Winans will be two of the recipients at the 17th Annual BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards in January. The event will be hosted by former Trailblazer recipient Yolanda Adams. Mary Mary will also be honored.
New Books From Gospel Greats
Another legendary Detroit artist, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, is currently working on a book about herself, her mother, and her son, entitled Peace Be Still. Jacky Clark Chisholm also recently announced that her first devotional journal, entitled Inspirational Praise: Volume I is now available and includes an accompanying music CD.
This Month’s Spotlight Artist: Clare Elder
Our latest Spotlight Artist is Clare Elder. Clare’s debut single, “Must Have Faith,” showcases her strong vocal chops, while the song’s contemporary gospel vibe and upbeat tempo will grab you on the first listen.
As Solomon says, there’s a time and season for everything, and although Clare decided to put her music career on hold to raise her children, now, she’s not only come back to her music ministry, but she’s brought her children along with her!
Clare recorded the project at Harvest Temple Church of God In Christ, where she is First Lady. The single was released last year, and the album, Faith, is due out in Winter 2016, on the Clare’s Music record label. Clare’s son, Marcus Elder, is one of the producers, along with Demetrius Paul.
Clare’s advice for aspiring artists is to, “be prepared both spiritually and naturally. Let God inspire you to learn what to sing and how to sing. And when it comes to the natural, take care of your business.”
