On the day of the CD’s release, Tuesday, June 26, 2012, Perfecting Church in Detroit hosted a CD Release Concert for the “Marvin L. Winans Presents: The Praise & Worship Experience,” and the church house was packed! DetroitGospel.com was on hand and was truly blessed by the legendary Pastor Marvin L. Winans, the 100-voice strong Praise and Worship Experience Choir, and special guest singers in attendance.
As the balcony filled, and the ushers began adding chairs to the main sanctuary, every available aisle, and even the foyer, Pastor Winans’ many fans, supporters, and congregation members continued to stream into the event. After leading the congregation in praise and worship, and taking up an offering, it was clear that this was not just a concert, but a Spirit-filled service of praise. Pastor Winans and the choir were all dressed in black and the choir filled the choir loft with over 100 sopranos, altors, tenors, and basses, ready to make a joyful noise unto the Lord.
Guest artists on hand included Erica Campbell of Mary Mary, Michon Young, Renee’ Thomas, Roderick Dixon, Lisa Scott Bailey, Pastor A. J. Smith and Delores “Mom” Winans, who’s stirring rendition of “Just Another Day,” (sung with Donnie McClurkin on the CD), was one of the highlights of the evening.
Throughout the evening, when not singing, playing the piano, or directing the Praise and Worship Experience Choir, Pastor Winans conversed with the congregation and shared his thoughts on the new project. Pastor Winans even talked about how his recent car-jacking was related to the Grace of God in that through it all he had no fear, knowing that God was with him.
Spotted in the audience were FM98 WJLB’s “Strong Inspirations” host Dr. Deborah Smith Pollard, playwright Glen Johnson and his wife, and Citadel of Praise’s first Lady, Tracey Ellis.
For all those at the concert, I’m sure all would agree that the band, under musical director David Buffin, was flawless; the Praise and Worship Experience choir was stellar (going from a faint whisper to a roaring thunder at the drop of a hat under Pastor Winans’ nuanced direction); the guest artists sang with joy and passion, and Pastor Winans demonstrated why he is the legend that he is.
